How do I make my dog a therapy dog?

He is a 2 1/2 year old papillon, has the best temperment of any dog i've ever met, loves children and is comfortable around wheel chairs and crutches, ect. i would love to be able to visit children and adults in the hospital, and nursing homes.

Therapy dogs international has a web site that will answer most if not all of your questions. You can contact the dog evaluator in your area, have your dog tested, pay a one time fee for the evaluator, another yearly fee to TDI. You will get a tag that says your dog is a therapy dog and another name tag with the dogs picture on it that says your dog is recognized by TDI. When you get tested (a test similar to the Canine Good Citizen test) they should be able to give you information about where and when dogs visit in your area. The CGC test is not required for a therapy dog.
